Help for Members Impacted by Hurricane Dorian

We’re taking steps to help our members and emergency personnel impacted by hurricane Dorian in Puerto Rico, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.
 
Help for Members in Puerto Rico, Georgia and Florida
If you are impacted by Hurricane Dorian and live anywhere in the state of Puerto Rico, or in one of these Georgia counties: Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Pierce, Wayne; or in one of these Florida counties: Baker, Bradford, Brevard, Broward, Clay, Duvall, Flagler, Glades, Hendry, Highlands, Indian River, Lake, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Nassau, Ockeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Palmer, Seminole, St. John, St. Lucie, Volusia, Union, here’s what you should know:
 
  • If you have an Anthem prescription drug plan you can get up to a 30-day emergency refill of your medications at any pharmacy now. This also applies to emergency personnel who have been activated by their state and local agency, but who do not reside in Puerto Rico or the specified counties in Georgia and Florida.
  • Time limits for prior authorization, pre-certification or referral requirements will be relaxed - there will be no late penalties. Please call us for an extension if you need it.
Relaxed guidelines are in effect from August 28 through September 28, 2019, for impacted members in Puerto Rico and Florida and from August 29 through September 29, 2019, for impacted members in Georgia.
 
Help for Members in North Carolina
Members who live anywhere in North Carolina, here’s what you should know:
 
  • If you have an Anthem prescription drug plan you can get up to a 30-day emergency refill of your medications at any pharmacy now. This also applies to emergency personnel who have been activated by their state and local agency, but who do not reside in North Carolina.
Relaxed guidelines are in effect from August 31 through September 30, 2019, for impacted members in North Carolina.
 
Help for Members in South Carolina
Members who live in one of these counties in South Carolina: Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, Horry, Jasper, here’s what you should know:
 
  • If you have an Anthem prescription drug plan you can get up to a 30-day emergency refill of your medications at any pharmacy now. This also applies to emergency personnel who have been activated by their state and local agency, but who do not reside in South Carolina.
  • You can get emergency or urgent care services by doctors and hospitals, even if they’re not in your plan network — and claims will be paid as if they’re in your network.
  • Time limits for prior authorization, pre-certification or referral requirements will be relaxed - there will be no late penalties. Please call us for an extension if you need it.
Relaxed guidelines are in effect from August 31 through October 1, 2019, for impacted members in South Carolina.
 
All the above relaxed guidelines apply to members with Anthem group or individual and family health plans. They do not apply to Federal Employee Health Benefit Plan members, Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage, Specialty and any fully insured trust funds - these programs have their own specific guidelines.
